On Abstract Photography and Being Uncommon

On Abstract Photography and Being Uncommon - Guy Farmer Photography

I’ve always been uncommon because of my love of creating abstract photography. A lot of people only appreciate representational photos and don’t understand or are comfortable with abstraction. I revel in the ambiguity and expansiveness of abstract works. I’m comfortable looking at a piece, getting lost in it, and coming up with my own interpretation.

I remember many occasions in my life when I would say something and it didn’t seem to make sense to the people around me even though it felt perfectly natural to me. It was as if I came from a different planet. It’s the same way with my photography: I create works that resonate deeply with me but don’t connect with a mainstream audience.

In the end, I’m glad I’ve followed the path less travelled. I delight in deviating from the norm and doing my own thing. I get to live my life authentically. What are your thoughts on being uncommon?
